I am a woodworking type artist who enjoys making abstract, yet functional tables. I enjoy using traditional woodworking joinery that can be seen, as opposed to being inside the creation. Using reclaimed wood, steel and found objects make my designs more appealing and challenging to build.

I was a shop/engineering teacher for 15 years in the public school system and always told my students, “If I teach it, I should be able to do it.”

So my work is a reflection of my past teaching. Encouraging students to try something new and weird. That is where my designs originated from. I’m always trying to build things that have not been seen/invented yet. If you can find it on google images, it’s not unique enough.

"We are noticing that a lot of people want to 'art' but they don't have a place to do it, they don't have an instructor, [...] they're just stuck being adults..."

This opportunity has given me the freedom to advance in my personal technique by purchasing different lumber species, materials and upgrading tools. Therefore, allowing me to experiment in my designs, materials and how those new opportunities will provide short term growth as an artist.

The long term goal is to have a cohesive body of work that is reflected as a result of the new tools and materials I receive from this grant. Allowing me a better opportunity to display my artwork in museums, shows and fine art fairs.
