Vee Adams

Milwaukee

My name is Vee Adams from Milwaukee, WI. I am a multidisciplinary visual artist working across drawing/painting, animation, and film. My practice centers on visual storytelling, Afro-futurism, and feminine power that fuses traditional art with media. My background spans dance, fashion, digital and physical art, and poetic visual expression. These disciplines are deeply connected in my work and help me to explore movement, symbolism, and freedom. As my practice evolves, I am increasingly integrating animation, painting, stop-motion and film into my art. I always hope that my work encourages others to keep their spark and continue pushing forward.

In the Fall of 2027, I will attend the Chateau d’Orquevaux residency in France. An international opportunity that will allow me to deepen my studio practice while developing new bodies of work. This 2 week residency marks a pivotal step in expanding my artistic voice and refining my interdisciplinary approach.

In addition to my personal artistic development, I am committed to engaging in my community through creative collaborations and knowledge-sharing sessions. Following my residency experience, I plan to host collaborative workshops, artist talks and more. I believe artistic growth should circulate, which helps our communities long after we are gone. I aim to create safe spaces where artists can have community, encouragement, and knowledge.

Alongside my studio practice, I am building the foundation of an independent art business that allows me to produce and sell my own prints. Investing in professional printing and production tools will allow me to maintain quality control and create sustainable income through my artwork.

My long-term goal is to create immersive Afro-futurist visual worlds through painting, film, and animation while cultivating meaningful artistic exchange and collaborations within my community and beyond.

"How can you work with what you've got around you in your space, the people around you, and make something else? It forces you to really just bloom in different ways."

This project represents a focused period of artistic development leading up to my 2027 residency at Chateau Orquevaux in France. 2026 is a year of tunnel vision. An intensive practice and experimentation period, culminating into my first solo exhibition in Fall/Winter 2026.

During this time, I will deepen my exploration of Afro-futurist themes through painting, animation and paper stop-animation studies. The 2026 solo exhibition will showcase a cohesive body of work developed through experimentation and visual world-building. This exhibition will serve as both public presentation and a testing ground for intergrating motion and intentional expression in my visual language and experiences.

In addition, while the short film ‘Bloom’ will be created during my time in France, the 2026 development year will allow me to refine my cinematography skills, study intentional storytelling and experiment with painting techniques.

In the short term, this project will expand my fluency across painting, film and animation while allowing me to present a fully realized solo exhibition. And in the long term, it will establish a strong artistic foundation leading into my international residency. A space where I will create ‘Bloom’ as a new, separate body of work built on the experimentation and growth of 2026.

This period of my life is designed not only as preparation, but as transformation. An ode to the little girl in me who never gave up on being an artist. Even in environments that weren’t always conducive to my dreams. Through this work, I hope to honor that persistence while inspiring those in the present and future to pursue their creative visions with courage and passion.
