Creative Conversations on advocacy and action

Stay connected, speak out, and show up in 2026 and as we head into the 2027-2029 state budget season. There are no guarantees, and a lot of hard work ahead, but we have the best opportunity in a long time to increase public investment in the arts throughout the state.

Register today for a Creative Conversation about advocacy and action in the critically important gubernatorial and legislative election season, the state budget process (click here for Create Wisconsin’s 2026-2027 Legislative Agenda), regional conferences, and, the importance of being involved in civic issues from the ground up.  Anne Katz, Director of Create Wisconsin, will lead the conversation.

The session will be repeated twice in May 2026:

–  Tuesday, May 5, 10-11 am

–  Thursday, May 7, 1-2 pm

Please register in advance using the form below.  You’ll get Zoom info and other materials before the meeting. The webinar will be recorded for anyone who can’t attend.

As you know, 2026 is a big year for Wisconsin (and national) politics, with races for all eight Congressional seats, Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General, half of the State Senate (odd numbered seats) and all 99 State Assemblypeople.  Tuesday, August 11 is the primary and Tuesday, November 3 is the general election.

This year is the time to empower advocates – that’s you – with information and actions, and educate candidates about the power, benefits, and impact of the arts, culture, and creative economy in their districts and statewide. The results of the elections and our advocacy will get us ready for the FY2027-2029 state budget season. The opportunities of 2027 will be here before we know it.

Register today for one of the sessions and learn more about this critically important gubernatorial and legislative election year, which leads into the critically important FY2027-2029 state budget season. In addition, we’ll touch on looming concerns about support for the arts and humanities on the federal level.

And here’s more about advocacy for the arts and creativity in 2026:

  • Federal budget issues:  This is big. The President’s FY27 Budget Request proposes shutting down the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services—a direct and serious threat to our country’s cultural, civic, and economic fabric. Americans for the Arts’ Arts Action Fund has resources for you to take action to ask Congress to fund these vital cultural agencies.
  • Big elections in Wisconsin:  The results of the 2026 elections and our advocacy will get us ready for the FY2027-2029 state budget season. The opportunities of 2027 will be here before we know it.  Here’s how you can be an informed and active advocate in 2026 and 2027:
    • Speak up: Create Wisconsin makes it easy for you to make your voice heard. Check out our Advocacy Action Center, and stay connected via our website and social media (Facebook/Instagram @createwis and LinkedIn @Create Wisconsin.
    • Learn more: Make a point to know the candidates running for elected official locally and statewide, and their issues. Candidates are circulating nomination papers as of today, and will turn them in on June 1, so that’s when we’ll know who’s running for what office. You can volunteer to work on a campaign, participate in candidate forums, and make sure you are involved in the electoral process. Although as a nonprofit organization we are not able to endorse candidates, Create Wisconsin will educate all candidates about the value and power of the statewide creative economy, and the critical importance of investment in the arts, culture, and creativity.
    • Be in the know: Wisconsin needs creative economic, workforce, and civic investment. Use these talking points for inspiration and action.
    • Show up: Voting is every citizen’s right, privilege, and duty, so make sure you are registered to vote, and do so in the primary and general elections. Up-to-date info about Wisconsin elections is at MyVoteWI.gov.

There are no guarantees, and a lot of hard work ahead, but being pro-active gives us the best opportunity in a long time to strengthen public investment in the arts and creative economy throughout the state.
